Rauw Alejandro
Despacito is a 2017 song released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the single that became the most streamed and downloaded song in the world within 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop music which not only brought attention to Latin Music, but also reggaeton. The Billboard Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to two in 2015. In the midst of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the top 100. Then in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 and soon after the most well-known artists began collaborating together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) as well as Madonna was a part of Medellin along with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the direction of their genre to the mainstream. However, a younger generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other forms.
